We are looking for nurses specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence (NSWOC). Candidates must be a Registered Nurse with advanced and specialized knowledge and clinical skills in wound, ostomy and continence care who has graduated from a World Council of Enterostomal Therapists (WCET) recognized education program.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive wound assessments for residents in a Long term Care setting.
- Develop and/or recommend a plan of care.
- Act as an expert resource for other staff, physicians, and other agency staff.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary care teams
- Offer educational support to patients with all types of wounds, skin issues, fistulas and ostomies.
- Demonstrates proper technique for specialty dressings and procedures.

Requirements
- Completed the University of Toronto International Interprofessional Wound Care Course or equivalent, preferred (WCET is an example)
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Current membership with Registered Nurses Association of Ontario preferred
- Current membership with Wounds Canada
- Completed Certification of Wound, Ostomy & Continence through the Canadian Nurses Association (Preferred)
- Basic computer proficiency
- Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
- Deals with others in an effective, compassionate and supportive manner
- Respects each resident as an individual and is aware of his/her need for self-respect and privacy, and the right to share in decisions about his/her care
- Knowledge of the Long Term Care Act, Program Standards for Long Term Care, the appropriate sections of the Health Disciplines Act, Occupation Health and Safety Act, Pharmacy Act, Food and Drugs Act (Canada), Narcotic Control Act (Canada), Coroners Act, College of Nurses of Ontario Standards of Practice and other pertinent Federal, Provincial and Municipal Statues which influence the operation of the Nursing Home and more specifically the nursing department.
- Medical Clearance (including but not limited to TB tests within 12 months)
- Vulnerable Sector Police Check within 6 months
- All staff are required to provide proof of vaccination, adhere to COVID-19 prevention protocols, and wear a mask when units are on outbreak
